Who We Are

Recompose is a public benefit corporation powered by people who believe in changing the current death care paradigm. We approach this work with energy, tenacity, and joy.

History

From its germination, Recompose has been a progressive company. Our ongoing success is thanks to the many collaborators and supporters who have spent years sharing in this mission.

Public Policy

In most U.S. states today, the only legal options for your body when you die are conventional burial, cremation, or donation. In order to carry our mission forward, we are working hard to legalize human composting in additional states and, eventually, around the world. We will announce all future expansion in our newsletter.

Jobs

We are looking for people to help us build a sustainable, long-lasting company.

a single vivid green leaf

Every person we hire will have the following qualities:

  • Empathy and interpersonal sensitivity – great listening skills.
  • Emotional generosity – ability and willingness to offer comfort and support to people in distress, whether clients or team members.
  • Resilience – ability to manage one’s own emotions, demonstrate self-control under pressure, and practice self-care.
  • Flexibility – ability to adapt to new situations and to change focus unexpectedly.

Working at Recompose requires:

  • Commitment to working toward and advocating for climate healing, soil health, and environmental justice.
  • Commitment to working at a progressive company that explicitly works to be anti-racist. Recompose is committed to advocating for and protecting the rights of BIPOC, religious minorities, and undocumented people.
  • Commitment to working at a progressive company that explicitly engages with the work of queer feminist practices of inclusion and equity. Recompose is committed to advocating for and protecting the rights of women, transgender people, and gender nonconforming people.

Partnerships

Over the next several years, Recompose will be cultivating relationships with heart-aligned partners with the eventual goal of opening Recompose locations to offer human composting in other states or countries. If you are interested in potentially being one of these partners, you can learn more here about our process and priorities.

Invest

We are committed to growing our company organically, carefully, and deliberately with strong and enduring financial results. We recently closed a $6.75M funding round led by heart-aligned investors to help us grow.

We are not currently accepting new investors, but may do so again in the future. If you are interested in hearing about potential future opportunities, sign up for our newsletter below.

Land Acknowledgement

Recompose acknowledges we make our lives and livelihoods on the lands of the Coast Salish People, specifically the Duwamish People. We honor with gratitude the Duwamish People past and present, the land itself, and the Duwamish Tribe.

Colonization is an active, persistent process. Indigenous communities continue to be resilient in protecting their ecological and cultural lifeways and deathways despite ongoing oppression. Recompose respects, shares, and supports this commitment to climate healing and environmental justice. Join Recompose in contributing to Real Rent Duwamish.
