Colorado State Representative Brianna Titone displays the Recompose cycle
May 2021

In 2021, Colorado became the second state to legalize human composting.

On May 10, 2021,  Colorado became the second state in the world to legalize human composting. Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed SB21-006: Human Remains Natural Reduction Soil into law, making natural organic reduction legal as of August 8, 2021. The bill passage was covered by the Denver Post  and the New York Times.

Thank you to our community in Colorado and to bill sponsors Senator Robert Rodriguez, Representative Brianna Titone, and Representative Matt Soper for your support of this important green death care policy.

HB1060 (2020)

In early 2020, Recompose partnered with Colorado State Representative Brianna Titone to bring forward House Bill 20-1060. After strong support, the bill was postponed indefinitely due to budget concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The bill enjoyed bipartisan support and passed the House by a vote of 49 to 15. Due to COVID-19, the Colorado Senate Committee on State, Veterans, & Military Affairs voted to postpone this bill indefinitely on May 27, 2020, meaning the bill would no longer move forward.

Thank you to Representative Titone and co-sponsors Representative Matt Soper, Senator Robert Rodriguez, and Senator Vicki Marble. Thanks also to all our supporters in Colorado including the funeral industry professionals and individuals who testified in support of HB20-1060.
