Recompose Green Funeral Home

Our state-of-the-art facility carefully orchestrates the Recompose human composting process while offering a beautiful space for friends and family to gather and honor the person who has died.

Each detail in the design of our space and services offers a new kind of funeral home that inspires and comforts. As a testament to our unique approach, Recompose was voted Best Funeral Home in the Pacific Northwest in 2023 and 2024.

The facility was spotless and well-designed, including a lovely sanctuary space for family and friends to say goodbye. The staff was very knowledgeable and clearly sensitive as to the sacredness of their work. Recompose has set a high standard as the premier provider of this earth-friendly alternative to traditional burial or cremation.

I felt calm the minute I stepped through the door. The design inside and out is inspired by the outdoors and spoke to my love of the forest and nature. The attention to detail is incredible. I feel very fortunate to have this facility close to me and an available option to traditional burial methods.

It’s obvious that they are sincere in their mission to provide quality, ecological, compassionate care at the end of life. The space is warm and inviting. It’s evident that the care and various possibilities are catered to the families’ needs. An exceptional funeral home changing the death care landscape with gentle kindness.

The facility is so comforting and welcoming, you’d think it was a spa. Everything about Recompose is so well-thought, and I really appreciate the effort that the team has put into making the process of human composting more accessible, beautiful, and exciting.

Recompose is stunningly gorgeous. It’s a beautiful clean space, a careful and tender atmosphere, and luscious green imagery all around. The Gathering Space has tall ceilings and the illusion of sunbeams coming through the trees. Who knew it was possible to create such a sacred space in the middle of the industrial area of Seattle?

I thought I was lost while driving to this destination amid the warehouses and semi trucks passing by, but when I arrived at Recompose, it felt like a breath of fresh air, serene, and comfortable. The staff was welcoming and the tour was very informative providing a viable option for death care.

Exceptional Human Composting Services

Our Seattle location has 33 vessels housed in a large space we call the Greenhouse. Inside the hexagonal steel vessels, bodies transform into nutrient-rich soil. The sophisticated composting system ensures that the soil meets regulatory and internal thresholds for safety and quality. Recompose staff tend to the vessels during the 8 to 12 weeks a client is in our care. Learn how our human composting process works.

Customizable Ceremony Options

The Gathering Space is a beautiful, light-filled room for friends and family to gather for ceremonies and small services. Floor-to-ceiling windows in shades of green and yellow and a large tapestry of the forest invite nature into this urban sanctuary. The room has a lectern for speakers and a screen for slideshows.

At the center of the room is a white, hexagonal threshold vessel—a passageway to the Greenhouse.

Refined Death Care

Cedar is a serene space designed for clients to have a private experience with their person either before or after soil transformation. The room can be used for personal time in whatever way clients choose, including for private viewings or to perform hands-on care. Sessions in Cedar include amenities like shampoos and soaps, essential oils, hair brushes, linens, and a sound system.

We recognize that for many this is a new experience. Our licensed Services Specialists are available to assist and serve as guides as requested.
