Recompose Seattle
Our Seattle location offers a space for friends and family to gather and contains the vessels where bodies are transformed into soil.
Gathering Space
This intimate room is designed for family and friends to honor and celebrate their loved one. The Gathering Space is adorned with a large tapestry showing aerial views of Bells Mountain, the verdant landscape where Recompose delivers donated soil. The room has a lectern for speakers and a screen for those who wish to show videos or photos.
During the laying-in ceremony, the body, shrouded in natural cloth, lies on a dark green bed called the cradle. At the end of the ceremony, the cradle is moved into the threshold vessel and passes through to the Greenhouse, where the transformation into soil begins.
Cedar
To encourage community-led death care, we have a small, private room available for those who wish to perform hands-on care for their person.
Greenhouse
Our Seattle location has 54 vessels which are housed in a large space we call the Greenhouse. Inside the hexagonal steel vessels, bodies transform into nutrient-rich soil. Our sophisticated composting system ensures that the soil meets regulatory and internal thresholds for safety and quality. Our staff tend to the vessels during the entire process.
