HB 1060 to legalize human composting was introduced in Maryland's House of Delegates in February 2023.
On March 20, 2023, Maryland House of Delegates passed HB 1060 – Cremation – Natural Organic Reduction – Regulation, to legalize human composting. The Maryland House formally transferred possession of the bill to the Maryland Senate but there were not enough votes in Maryland’s Senate Finance Committee to move the bill forward to a vote.
We will share updates about future bills in our newsletter.
