Robert Hunter

May 16, 1936 – October 13, 2025

Dr. Robert E. Hunter

Bob (as he preferred) was born in Greenville, SC. He spent  his youth in Clemson, SC except for the four years of WWII, when he lived in Cambridge, MA. He graduated from Clemson College, then went on to The Medical College of SC in Charleston, SC where he received his MD. Post-graduate medical specialty training in pediatrics and hematology/oncology followed at the University of Virginia, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Washington with a two year break for military service in the Army hospital in Livorno, Italy. This experience gave him a love for all things Italian, except its politics.

While at the University of Wisconsin he met his wife. They married in Madison and she became his lifelong partner for sixty plus years united in their love of family, music and gardens. They moved to Seattle for Bob to complete his training after which he was pediatrician at the USPHS Hospital for two years before beginning his career at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound until retirement.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, three children, two grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews. He requested that any donations made in his name be to a charity of your choice that supports the welfare of children and families.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in The Hearthstone Green Lake chapel at 6720 East Green Lake Way North
