LeMoyne Billings Harwell
September 11, 1975 – November 24, 2025
Kirk LeMoyne Billings Harwell died on November 24, 2025 in Seattle, aged 50. He was an original, and left the way he arrived – with southern grace, quiet determination and an expansive heart.
LeMoyne was full of wonder and endlessly curious, leading to projects, experiments, travels, questions, infinite learning and lots and lots of conversations, deep and random. He attended Choate Rosemary Hall, Bates College, The University of Edinburgh, and UCLA where he earned a degree in architecture. Raised in Nashville, he spent time in Connecticut, Baltimore, Maine, Italy, Arizona, Scotland, Malaysia, Los Angeles with
many stops in between, before making Seattle his final home port with his wife. From each, he acquired skills that were essential to his passion for building – dwellings, boats, relationships, family, life, legacy and plain fun.
He was spontaneous, and a careful planner. He was a nonconformist and respected the ways of the world. He made sure to be sure, but could always be heard chuckling hard tellin’ not knowin’. Even with one twinkled eye on the new and novel, he kept his reverence for history, shared pasts, stories of lives long lived. He lived the way he was taught, and lived the way he sought. LeMoyne always found a different way to look at things, and a different way to live, and a different way to love.
LeMoyne adored his family immensely and cheered them on unselfconsciously. He was a faithful friend, a loving companion, a proud father. He instilled in his family to do their best, to always do your best.
LeMoyne left behind his father Coleman Alexander Harwell II, his wife Azimahana Amir and two sons, Shafih Dorsey Amir Harwell and Iskandar LeMoyne Amir Harwell, all who loved him fiercely in life and will always miss him gently in death.
