Kathi Sue Ploeger

July 21, 1951 – February 15, 2025

On Saturday, February 15, 2025 I lost Kathi Sue Ploeger, my remarkable wife, travel partner, cat parent, dance and singing partner of 36 years.  The one and one half year journey through the wilds of cancer finally ended early in the morning in the Ballard bungalow that was home for almost 50 years.  I had the privilege of being her caregiver while she tried her very best with the help of Kaiser Permanente to control the cholangiocarcinoma.  We heard “treatable but not curable” in August of 2023 and that turned out to be true.  I miss her now.  I will miss her next month.  I will miss her with every turn of a favorite dance and phrase of a favorite song.  Safe travels, hon.

Kathi was born in July 1951 in Flint, Michigan.  Her parents, William and Dorothy (Arbour) Ploeger moved from Capac, Michigan to Melbourne, Florida in 1957.  She graduated Melbourne High School and then went to Vanderbilt University for her bachelors degree.  Then the University of Washington offered a scholarship for a masters program in German.  Completion of that course was a clear qualification for starting a 30 year career with Bank Of America (formerly known as Seafirst Bank), most of the time as an officer of the Private Bank.  She retired on a Friday.  I picked her up and we went to Seatac Airport, and took a first-class flight to Scandinavia to celebrate.  Our wonderful life revolved around travel, dance, and music, often in combination.  Kathi was a woman of wide interests.  She was detail oriented in all of those interests.  Banker, tax professional, museum archivist, teacher of Scandinavian dance, membership chair for Skandia Folkdance Society, and registrar for Springdans Northwest.  Her friends in all those diverse activities will remember the absolute trust they had in her execution of those activities.

Kathi is survived by her husband Don Meyers of Seattle Washington, and her sister Linda Ruckman and brothers Bill Ploeger and Paul Ploeger, all of Florida.

Please no flowers.  A celebration of Kathi’s life will be held in May or June of this year.
