Jerry Scheuerman
December 16, 1954 – February 9, 2021
Jerald (Jerry) Harvey Scheuerman, moved on peacefully to his next life’s adventures in heaven on February 9, 2021, at the age of 66.
Jerry was born on December 16, 1954 in Corvallis, OR, to Lee and Eileen Scheuerman. He grew up in Karachi Pakistan, attending Karachi American School (KAS), playing on the beach and in the surf. With his family, he travelled the world, moving to Bellevue, WA at 16, when his father retired from the United Methodist Church Mission. Jerry graduated from Bellevue High School in 1973 and from Central Washington University (CWU) in 1977 with a BA in Geography.
Always the “Behavioral Change Specialist” Jerry’s true calling was Law Enforcement. While at CWU, he served for a time with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Following graduation from CWU, he worked for two years at the Seattle Door Company while he applied to various law enforcement agencies for police jobs. In 1979, he was hired by the City of Normandy Park. He graduated from the Washington State Law Enforcement Academy and began his 31-year career as a Police Officer there.
Jerry met the love of his life, Cheryl (Harrigill) Yeager, in 1981 when she began working for Normandy Park Police. They were married on September 15, 1984, making their home in Federal Way WA. In 1985, they moved to Renton, WA. Their son, Garrett, was born in 1988.
In 1991, Jerry was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer — Fibrolamellar. Over the last 30 years, Jerry underwent multiple surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy treatments. In spite of his cancer diagnosis, health issues and prognosis, he continued to live life to the fullest. He worked, played, served and met most every day with adventure and humor.
Jerry retired from Normandy Park in 2010 and began working as a part time driving instructor for the 911 Drive School in Kent WA. He volunteered for the Renton Farmer’s Market and multiple other community organizations and events.
Jerry’s life was his family, friends, travelling, educating, learning and adventure. Of all the many places in the world he visited, Depoe Bay OR and his family’s cabin there, was his favorite place on earth. He also loved to swim, beach explore, hike, kayak and work/dig in the garden. He was passionate about caring for our planet. His mantra was: “reduce, reuse, recycle and compost!”.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim, his sister Judith (Bender) and his father-in-law Fulton Harrigill. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Garrett; twin brother Jeff (Carmen); brother Jack (Darla); sister Jean (James) Ohl; mother-in-law Emily Harrigill; brother-in-law Richard (Tammy) Harrigill, many nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews and other very special family members, friends, former co-workers and neighbors.
Unfortunately, a formal gathering to celebrate Jerry’s life cannot be held at this time due to Covid restrictions. We hope all can gather at a later time. Until then, he will be remembered by all who knew and loved him in their own special way.
Even in death, Jerry continues his passion for adventure, educating others and saving the planet. He donated his body for Fibrolamellar research; his remains will be composted at the first U.S. human-composting funeral home, located in Kent WA, just a few miles away from his home.
