David Shannon Roys

August 5, 1939 – September 3, 2024

David Shannon Roys, MD was born in Norman, Oklahoma in 1939 and moved to Seattle in 1945.  He graduated from Queen Anne High school in 1956, Linfield College (pre-med) in 1960, and the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1964.  His Internship was in Michigan from 1964-1965 and he did a tour with the Marines in Vietnam as a Medical Officer from 1965-1967 and came home to the University of Washington to complete his residency in 1971.  He started his private psychiatry practice in 1971 in a Northgate office and continued in private practice with offices in the Pike Place Market and Cabrini Tower until his retirement in 2015.

He was an outdoor enthusiast, an avid hiker, skier and bicycle rider.  He was a mountaineer summiting Mt Rainier, Mt Baker, and Glacier Peak.  He loved the Seattle Opera and was a season ticket holder for almost 50 years. He enjoyed coffee, reading the Seattle Times, and listening to NPR. He was a generous contributor to liberal and environmental causes that he was passionate about.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Ruth and survived by his two sisters Denise (Phil) and Liz, his 3 children Shannon (Eric), Susan (Ben) and Michael (Tanya) and his 4 Grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Jack and Lily and his many good friends old and new.
