Carolyn Waldow

December 8, 1968 – August 19, 2026

Carolyn Waldow, 57, of Seattle Washington, passed away in her longtime home in West Seattle on August 19th, 2026, due to complications from Stage 4 aggressive breast cancer.

Carolyn was born on December 8th, 1968 in the City of Spokane, Washington. She grew up in the town of Grand Coulee, and graduated from Lake Roosevelt High School in 1987. Some of her childhood interests included skiing, water skiing, and swimming. She went on to pursue higher education at Gonzaga University in Spokane, where she was an excellent student, and graduated, with honors, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1991. Upon graduation, she moved to Seattle and lived there for the remainder of her life.

In Seattle, she met Eric Waldow, and they were married in 1998, eventually divorcing in 2011. They had a son, Justin, in 2001, and a daughter, Sophia, in 2004. For most of Carolyn’s career she worked in e-commerce, information technology, and computer mapping with multiple companies, including Amazon, Liaison, and Opentext.

She was an avid consumer of books, with a particular appetite for classic novels, including the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen. She loved fiction, and believed that novels and made-up stories could reveal more to you about the workings of our world than any amount of non-fiction reading. Her love of skiing and the outdoors continued into her adult life, but the physical activity that best represents what she cared to do as an adult was yoga. She was a certified yoga instructor for many years of her life, and firmly believed that when it came to both physical and spiritual well-being, yoga was one of, if not the best prescription available. Even after her cancer diagnosis about five years ago, she continued to do yoga on an almost daily basis, and her many many years of practice represent one of the highlights of her life. Other highlights include her children, whom she raised in the years after the divorce to the absolute best of her ability. 

Carolyn’s determination to make her children happy, her intense commitment to anything she set her mind to, her lifelong love of learning, and her perceptiveness of the inner workings of the world around her, are some of the features that made Carolyn a wonderful figure in other’s lives.
