The Recompose team celebrates another trip around the sun of operations, mission, and impact
Years ago, we set out to transform the funeral industry to make it more sustainable, more authentic, and more approachable. We’re doing it!
Here’s how:
- Sequestering carbon by transforming the dead into nutrient-rich soil and distributing that soil to nourish forest, meadow, and gardens.
- Facilitating community-led deathcare in Cedar, a Recompose Seattle room specially designed for hands-on practices.
- Encouraging conversation around mortality and educating the public through our website visitors, tours, and community presentations.
- Creating opportunity for more accessible death care through our Community Fund, which directly subsidizes clients who can’t afford the full price of a Recompose service.
Here are some to-date numbers we’re excited about:
- Seattle, a full-service, green funeral home, is a place we love sharing. Community tours average 70 people per month.
- Our team of the world’s leading human composting experts has transformed more than 350 people into soil to date.
- Over half of our clients donated their soil to our land conservation partners.
- Together, with trained Recompose life celebrants, over 100 clients have created beautiful tributes to their loved ones in our Gathering Space.
Recompose Seattle embodies the change we are making in the funeral industry. Each of us is focused on quality, leadership, stewardship of the earth, and business for good. We are collectively excited for the new year ahead and look forward to deepening our community.
