We shared my husband Jeff’s soil with a few close friends so that others could do their own plantings on their property, but one thing about our family of four is that we loved to travel. It’s always been a huge part of our lives—especially to London, which is our favorite place in the world.
So I requested two of Recompose’s specialty containers and brought one to London and one to New York in the spring after Jeff died. We transported them as carry-on baggage and during our trips we took some soil to Hyde Park and some to Central Park. It gave us a kind of ceremony to mark our first trips without him and a tangible way to honor Jeff’s love for those places.
Every year my daughter makes a list of things she wants to do over the summer. This past spring she went off to her room to write this summer’s list. When she came back out and showed it to me, she had included, “Continue to honor Dad by spreading more of his soil in his favorite places.”
Even though we donated some to one of Recompose’s Land Partners, we have enough to continue bringing it to his favorite places—this summer and beyond.
