LD536 to legalize human composting was introduced in the Maine House of Representatives in February 2023.

“An Act to Provide Natural Organic Reduction Facilities for Maine Residents for the Conversion of Human Remains to Soil” was sponsored by Representative Victoria Doudera and introduced to the Maine legislature in February. The bill is under consideration and has been referred to the Committee of Health and Human Services.
